I grew up in Long Beach, California, one of the most diverse cities in the country.
Who is Dr. Barbee?

My path into psychology took me from Columbia University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in psychology, to Emory University, where I completed my master’s degree and Ph.D. in clinical psychology. My dissertation research explored maternal health and racial disparities in mental health outcomes and achievement.
During graduate training, I completed an internship at the Emory Child and Adolescent Mood Program, where I split my time providing therapy and assessment, primarily working with children, parents, and young adults. During my postdoctoral training in private practice, I primarily worked with adults of all ages, including adults with physical disabilities and a wide range of mental health concerns, from mood disorders to complex psychiatric conditions.
I’ve worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds, and I take an interpersonal approach that centers on building a meaningful connection. I want our work together to feel helpful and responsive to your needs, and for you to feel seen, heard, and taken seriously.
Talking with someone new about personal experiences can feel difficult, or even scary. I make space for us to get to know each other and move at a pace that helps you feel comfortable.
